Amblyopia, or 'lazy eye' can be successfully treated in many cases IF it is diagnosed at an early age. Treatment may simply involve wearing eyeglasses (or pediatric contact lenses), or may involve eye exercises, patching the good eye (to force the poorer eye to develop visually), or may even require surgery, or a combination of these treatments.

Only a professional eye examination can determine if your child has amblyopia.

Your child has a higher risk of amblyopia if a sibling or parent has amblyopia, if your child wears glasses in which one lens is thicker than the other, or if your child has hyperopia (farsightedness) or crossed-eyes.
